
United States: The Trump administration has rolled out a new AI Action Plan, presenting big wins for the tech industry—especially in its competition with China—but also hiding a major controversy. Tucked within the plan is a politically charged provision: a push to make government-used chatbots promote “ideological neutrality.”
The Ticking Clock Inside the Policy
This neutrality demand, laid out in Trump’s executive order titled “Preventing Woke AI in the Federal Government,” states that any artificial intelligence used by federal agencies must avoid political bias. It must instead promote what the order calls “historical accuracy, scientific inquiry, and objectivity.” Yet it also singles out Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as an example of what it labels “ideological dogma.”
