A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.

This Week’s Topline

Supporting the STOP HATE Act: Curbing Terrorist Content Online

Jonathan Greenblatt speaks during event with Rep. Bacon (at left) and Rep. Gottheimer.

Yesterday, ADL was proud to join U.S. Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Don Bacon (R-NE) on Capitol Hill to call for the passage of the bipartisan Stopping Terrorists Online Presence and Holding Accountable Tech Entities (STOP HATE) Act.

Extremists are using social media to spread antisemitism and to incite violence. The STOP HATE Act is a crucial step in curbing this. It requires social media companies to report to the Department of Justice on how they enforce their terms to ensure that terrorist entities are not utilizing their platforms.

Violent rhetoric online has turned into violent action in our streets. The attacks on the Jewish community in Washington, D.C. and Boulder, Colorado, were not only celebrated online, but are being used to inspire future violence. In the seven days following the D.C. attack, ADL documented a 344% surge in the number of daily antisemitic threats on Telegram.

This legislation comes as ADL highlights that social media platforms routinely fail to act on antisemitic hate reported by users.

MAKING PROGRESS WITH ADL

Blocking the Boycott: Looking at a Win by the Numbers: The National Education Association (NEA) Executive Committee recommended the Board reject the union’s highly contested and fundamentally biased boycott against ADL and its education programs. The NEA Board then voted overwhelmingly to do so. This was a significant accomplishment, not just for ADL but the entire Jewish community, which has faced similar calls to boycott since 10/7. Here are just some of the numbers that led to this positive outcome:

- More than 25,000 people took up ADL’s call to action, sending over 210,000 emails to NEA leaders. This included more than 5,000 educators who value our work.
- We worked with our allies across the organized Jewish community on a letter that garnered close to 380 signatory groups. It was unprecedented.
- ADL launched seven state-focused actions urging State Education Associations to block any similar measures. We sent emails in NJ, CT, CA, MI, OK, TX and PA.
- We are establishing parent and teacher empowerment networks; hundreds of parents have already signed up (

Reducing Hate Speech in Online Games: ADL released a new report,
[link removed]
“The Price of Hate in Online Games,” which finds that gaming companies may be losing players when they don’t effectively moderate hate and harassment. Exposure to that kind of hate speech, including antisemitic content, racism, misogyny and white supremacy, is widespread. We applaud major developers EA and Take-Two for engaging with ADL and our JLens affiliate to more effectively address hate speech and extremism. These are steps in the right direction.

Sergey Brin Spoke the Truth: When Google co-founder Sergey Brin spoke out against a biased UNHCR report that accuses companies doing business with Israel of “aiding genocide” in Gaza, he demonstrated the kind of corporate courage that’s desperately needed in today’s climate of rising antisemitism and moral confusion.

JLens Managing Director Ari Hoffnung writes that Brin offers conviction that should be an inspiration to other leaders to refuse to legitimize voices that demonize the world’s only Jewish state.

Backgrounder on “Free Palestine” slogan: The slogan “Free Palestine” has long been used at rallies, online and graffitied by those advocating on behalf of Palestinian rights. Since 10/7, the slogan has been regularly used by anti-Israel activists and organizations. In numerous instances, it has been directed maliciously at Jews and others.

Key ADL-Backed Provisions Included in Defense Bill: The U.S. House Armed Services Committee passed its version of the National Defense Authorization Act. This annual bill sets policies and funding levels for the U.S. military and national defense programs. Two ADL-backed amendments were successfully included: a public audit of the Department of Defense’s antisemitism training programs and a report on the role of antisemitism in violent extremist movements. These measures represent important steps toward ensuring that all who serve in our armed forces can do so in an environment that is safe, inclusive and aligned with core American values.

Call on members of Congress to cosponsor the bipartisan STOP HATE Act. With the help of ADL, Congress is considering this law, which would force social media companies to report on their enforcement of their own rules against terrorist content and hate speech. Join ADL in supporting this law, which would help stop online hate from turning into real-world violence in our communities.

Yesterday, @StatCan_eng released new data on police-reported hate crimes in Canada, showing that in 2024, Jews were the most targeted religious group in the country. In fact, Jews were 25 times more likely to be targeted in a hate crime than any other Canadian citizens. We continue to stand with Canada’s Jewish community as they face an increase in antisemitic hate.
