'Government U-turn on HS2 would be huge betrayal' says council leader

The Government this week launched an independent review of the entire HS2 project, which will consider whether the 56bn project should continue, be cut back or cancelled altogether.

The review will question whether Phase 2b - the section from Birmingham to Leeds via Toton - should go ahead.

Nottingham City Council Leader Cllr David Mellen described the potential U-turn as a 'huge betrayal of people and businesses in the Midlands.'

Hello East Midlands Railway??
East Midlands Railway

Council Leader Cllr David Mellen welcomed the first train in the East Midlands Railway livery to arrive in Nottingham this week.

Operator Abellio has taken over the running of the franchise, promising 600m investment in improvements to rail services across the region.

This is set to include new trains, more services and faster journeys.

...And they're off! NCT ready to take over Racecourse P&R
Racecourse P&amp;R NCT

Nottingham City Transport (NCT) this week officially launched the new Racecourse P&R service.

This will see the Red 44 become the most frequent park and ride service, while a new 50 service takes over from the existing Ecolink on Monday 2 September.

Counciillor Adele Williams, the City Councils Portfolio Holder for Transport, said, NCT offering to replace the Ecolink bus service on a commercial basis demonstrates the success of this route."
