I ran for office completely uninsured.

At the time — while I was fighting for healthcare for others — I felt embarrassed to share this publicly.

I felt that people would think that I was not qualified to run for office if I didn’t have healthcare, or if I was struggling to pay my rent.

But the fact was, I understood what people were going through precisely because of what I had been enduring.
