Dear John,
Each year on July 24th, we take time to
honor the legacy of Utah’s pioneers—those who crossed plains and
mountains with little more than grit, faith, and a belief in building
something better for the generations to come. They didn’t wait for
ideal conditions. They pushed forward through hardship because they
believed their cause was worth it.
That pioneer spirit didn’t end in 1847. Since those
first pioneers, people from all over the world and from
different faiths or traditions have added new chapters to Utah's
pioneering story. This tradition is still alive today in Utah’s
families, communities, and in the conservative values we fight to
protect. The pioneers taught us what it means to work hard, to rely on
one another, to stand firm in our beliefs, and to build strong
foundations—both literally and figuratively.
As Republicans, we strive to carry that legacy forward.
We know that freedom, faith, and personal responsibility aren’t just
political talking points—they’re principles our state was built on.
They are worth preserving for future generations.
So this Pioneer Day, let’s remember
where we came from. Let’s honor the sacrifice of those who came before
us and continue their pioneering legacy. And let’s recommit ourselves
to keeping their spirit alive by defending the values that make Utah
strong.
