Over the past year, we’ve made significant strides in ensuring that Maryland’s economy remains strong, equitable, and responsive to the needs of every community. I’m focused on doing what I can to build a more affordable Maryland, and I wanted to recap some of what we’ve been up to:

1️⃣ Successful Tax Credit Awareness Campaign
We launched a successful statewide campaign to ensure more Marylanders claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC). Compared to 2024, we decreased the number of eligible tax filers who missed the credit by 27,000. This campaign is critical for helping Marylanders access the financial tools they need to build wealth.

2️⃣ Pension System Investment Principles
The Pension System Investment Committee took an important step by adopting new workforce principles for managing its portfolio. These policies support workers’ rights and protections, promote health and safety, and provide fair compensation and benefits, which can result in strong investment returns.

3️⃣ Federal Impact Report Released
In June, we released the Federal Impact Report, in partnership with the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, which quantified the significant impact of federal spending and jobs on Maryland’s economy. This report will help us chart a more resilient economic path for Maryland’s future.

4️⃣ Income Tax Program for Justice-Involved Marylanders
As part of our ongoing commitment to creating economic opportunities for all Marylanders, we have worked with Senator McCray, Delegate Wims & Mireku-North and have now introduced a new income tax program to support justice-involved individuals and help them navigate their tax responsibilities as they rebuild their lives.

I’m proud of all that our team has accomplished, but there’s so much more to do, especially in these challenging times! As always, I’m committed to building a better Maryland by ensuring that the Comptroller’s office is working towards a more just, equitable, and prosperous state.

My best,

Brooke
