Northern Michigan Man Charged with 25 Felonies Following Home Invasion, Police Chase

*LANSING* – Today, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced that 25 felony charges have been filed against Darrin Rasheed Martin, 27, of Marion, following a July 10th home invasion and high-speed police chase spanning Wexford and Osceola counties. Martin was arraigned yesterday before Magistrate Thea Titus in the 77th District Court in Osceola County. 

On July 10, 2025, officers from Michigan State Police and the Wexford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Cadillac home following multiple 911 calls from a witness to an alleged assault and later calls from the same individual reporting to be a victim of an in-progress home invasion. Police later made a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description given by the callers, and in that vehicle was Martin. It is alleged Martin fled the traffic stop, leading officers on a high-speed chase, firing several times at pursuing officers as he drove the vehicle, before crashing and rolling the vehicle several times off the side of the road. 

Martin is further alleged to have fled the damaged vehicle on foot into an adjacent farm field. Officers pursued Martin into the field and, despite repeated verbal commands to drop the pistol he carried, it is alleged that Martin did not, and multiple times raised the weapon and pointed it at the officers. Officers fired upon Martin multiple times, thus ending the pursuit. Martin received medical care on site and at an area hospital, surviving his injuries. The Department of Attorney General reviewed the shooting by the Michigan State Police Troopers and found their use of force justified under the law. 

“These allegations involve not only a home invasion and assault, but an extremely dangerous attempt to evade arrest that risked the lives of law enforcement officers and residents across Wexford and Osceola County roadways,” Nessel said. “My Department remains committed to ensuring that those who engage in such brazen disregard for the law and public safety are held fully accountable.” 

Martin is charged with: 


* 6 counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, a felony punishable by a lifetime term of incarceration; 
* 1 count of First-Degree Home Invasion, a 20-year felony; 
* 2 counts of Discharging a Weapon from a Motor Vehicle, a 10-year felony; 
* 3 counts of Carrying a Concealed Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, a 5-year felony; 
* 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, a 5-year felony;  
* 1 count of Third-Degree Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer, a 5-year felony; 
* 5 counts of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, a 2-year felony; and 
* 5 counts of Possessing a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, a 2-year felony. 

Martin was granted a $750,000 cash or surety bond and will next appear before the 77th District Court on July 31st.
