Dear Colleague,

The Trump administration blocked a UN ministerial declaration from being adopted by consensus yesterday due to the inclusion of DEI and abortion. Notice of a vote came late, which did not permit countries to support it, but the number of statements afterwards made it clear that there is wide support for this U.S. disruption in multilateral fora. Stefano Gennarini, J.D. reports.

In the Human Rights Committee we finally have an expert who has demonstrated she will follow the facts in reporting on harm to women due to gender ideology, even if it upsets powerful people in the UN system and women’s rights groups. Reem Alsalem faced opposition by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights when responding to critics of her latest report. Stefano Gennarini, J.D. has the story.

Lastly, one of the Biden administration's priorities was to have the World Health Organization (WHO) update its international health regulations, resulting in more power to international bureaucracies during pandemic emergencies.  Now the U.S. under President Trump, as well as Israel and Italy, have announced they are rejecting the regulations before these amendments take effect. Rebecca Oas, Ph.D. explains.

Yours sincerely,

Lisa Correnti
Executive Vice President
