Thanks to Elon Musk, his artificial intelligence program Grok turned into a Nazi – or MechaHitler, as it called itself.

That should be enough to make us question the guardrails around this powerful AI tool; but just days later the Trump administration took steps to turn it loose in our military.

This is unacceptable and incredibly alarming. At a time when antisemitism is reported to be on the rise, and with the heightened fear felt by our Jewish community, this cannot be treated as a standard contract.

That’s why I’ve led nine of my colleagues to demand accountability from the Trump Administration over their $200 million contract to deploy “Grok for Government.”

This cannot be the new normal for AI. It’s also a warning that AI can carry the biases of its creators, and should be used carefully and within a regulated framework.

Without clear guardrails, there is no reason to believe the behavior of 'Grok for Government' will be any less bigoted than the tool open to the public. And combined with the Department of Defense’s recent failures to curb antisemitism, this entire agreement needs to have full transparency.

As Representative for one of the most diverse districts in the country, I will not tolerate any amount of scapegoating or targeting of any of our communities – by Silicon Valley, by right-wing groups, and certainly not by our federal government.

And I will fight tooth and nail to ensure untested and potentially discriminatory technology is never allowed inside federal systems, especially when our national security is at risk.
