Last week, I held town halls with Representative Jim Clyburn and Jonathan Jackson in Goose Creek and Greenville, South Carolina. We did what Republicans refuse to do—we listened. We gave people the chance to tell their stories and how Trump’s new budget is failing working families.

Here’s the thing: Trump and his Republican allies are leading with 19th Century ideas. If we want to roll back their attacks on everyday Americans and win back the House in 2026, Democrats need to offer 21st Century ideas. That means investing in manufacturing and job creation, not billionaire tax cuts. It means funding healthcare and education, not overseas wars and greedy defense contractors. I call it economic patriotism, a modern-day Marshall Plan for America.

I know Democrats can become the party of the future. But to make that happen, we need to keep meeting people where they are, listening to them, and proposing solutions with their best interests at heart.
