What's Happening?
Trump's EPA has moved to repeal the lifesaving Mercury and Air Toxics Standards and all limits on carbon pollution from fossil fuel-fired power plants. What's worse: Trump has proposed to stop regulating carbon pollution from power plants entirely. If Trump's dirty air plan succeeds, 71 coal plants in the US will be able to release triple the amount of mercury, a neurotoxin that can cause lifelong brain damage, into the air. These rollbacks threaten safeguards that would otherwise prevent 4,500 premature deaths and save Americans $46 billion in health costs by 2032.
Without these protections in place, coal plants will spew seven times more carbon pollution, accelerating climate chaos and driving up energy costs for the average American family.
Why Now?
Over the first seven months of his second term, Trump's EPA has announced plans for 31 separate rollbacks, gutting everything from standards to clean up methane pollution from oil and gas drilling to rules that allow your car to drive farther on a gallon of gasoline. This reckless agenda prioritizes fossil fuel profits over human life, undermining decades of progress we've made together on protecting public health and acting on behalf of our climate.
We need your help to spread the word. The Trump administration is betting that people won't notice or care. Let's prove them wrong. |
