Dear john,

As Congress abruptly heads home at the decision of Speaker Johnson, I'm looking forward to the August District Work period. It's an important time to see our friends and neighbors in our community and hear directly from them about the issues they care about. Before we begin August, here are some updates from my week in Washington.

First, I'm heartened to tell you that our pressure on the Trump Administration and the Department of Education is working. I led a letter with 150 Democrats demanding Secretary McMahon release the illegally withheld $7 billion in funding for students. As of Monday, more than $1.3 billion was released to help our kids year-round—and we can't let up now! Watch my video below or read more about the news here.

On Wednesday, I led legislation with Senator Markey and Senator Kaine to restore a program that supported students with disabilities, but was cancelled abruptly by DOGE. After years of recruiting families and training teachers to participate, the sudden cancellation abandoned students who rely on these services and wasted $25 million in taxpayer dollars. I spoke about these program cuts on the House floor and questioned Secretary McMahon about it when she came before the House Education Committee. Read more about our new legislation below.

Thank you for taking the time to stay up to date with my office. I hope the summer continues to treat you and your family well, and I hope to see you in Georgia!

Sincerely,
