Exciting News: NVFS Unveils a Fresh New Look!

As we celebrate over 100 years of service, we’re thrilled to share a major milestone—our brand refresh! Earlier this month, we unveiled a new name and logo that better reflects our growth and continued commitment to the community we serve.

Our new name, Northern Virginia Family Services, captures the full range of services we offer, while our updated logo, featuring a quilt block, symbolizes the comfort, strength, and unity at the heart of our work. This change honors our history while embracing the future with a vibrant, modern look.

This brand refresh is part of our ongoing effort to stay connected with the evolving needs of those we serve. It reflects the energy and dedication of our staff, partners, and community members who make everything we do possible.

We invite you to visit our brand refresh webpage <[link removed]> to learn more about our new look and what’s ahead. We’re excited to continue this journey with you for years to come.

Don’t Miss the Bus on Back2School

For too many local kids, the first day of school brings stress—not supplies.
No backpack. No notebooks. No way to feel ready.

But then—A purple notebook. A brand-new backpack.

As our Back2School Drive <[link removed]> wraps up, volunteers are counting every last pencil and glue stick to ensure students start the year confident and ready to learn. And here’s the truth: if we come up short on supplies, we buy what’s missing. Because no child should miss out on learning because their backpack isn’t packed.

If you’ve been meaning to give, now’s the time. Your donation helps provide essential supplies—and moments of unexpected joy.

Make a difference in just a few clicks. Donate today <[link removed]> because every student deserves to feel ready, supported, and geared up for greatness.

More Children Than Ever Need a CASA. Could That Be You?

Right now, more children than ever are waiting for a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)—a consistent, caring adult to speak up for them in court and help ensure their needs are met.

CASAs are trained volunteers <[link removed]> who get to know each child, connect with the people in their lives, and help judges understand what each child truly needs to thrive.

As Shelley Jackson, a longtime CASA, shared, “The best part of being a CASA is the opportunity to form connections with children, families, and others... and to use those connections to positively impact children’s lives.”

Right now, we need more people like Shelley. People who care. People who want to help children move forward with hope and stability.

Join us on September 10 for a virtual info session to learn more. No legal background required—just your time, heart, and commitment.

Sign up today. <[link removed]>

One child. One voice. One person can make all the difference.

Celebrating the Largest Arlington Head Start Graduating Class

On June 26, families, teachers, and volunteers gathered to celebrate the 2025 Arlington Head Start <[link removed]>graduates. This year’s class is the largest in the program’s history—a testament to the program’s growth and impact.

These bright young minds are off to a great start, thanks to the strong foundation built through Head Start. From mastering their ABCs to dreaming big, each child has achieved so much with the help of dedicated educators and volunteers. Now, they’re ready for kindergarten and beyond.

We’re incredibly proud of everything they’ve accomplished and all that lies ahead. Here’s to the Class of 2025—your future is bright!

Volunteer Spotlight: A Summer of Discovery at Arlington Mill Early Head Start

Thank you to the incredible guests who made this summer so special for our littlest learners at Arlington Mill Early Head Start. Your time, energy, and creativity gave our children and teachers experiences they’ll remember.

Over the summer, our students got moving with yoga, met animal friends and learned about kindness from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, and enjoyed storytime thanks to Arlington’s R.E.A.D. (Read Early & Daily) program.

Physical therapy students from the American Physical Therapy Association and George Washington University led fun, movement-based activities that kept kids active and curious. And one of the biggest highlights? A visit from the Arlington Fire Department—complete with a close-up look at the fire truck.

To everyone who joined us: thank you. You helped our children grow, move, wonder, and smile—all summer long.
