Correction & Update regarding the BoS Resolution on SFPD & ICE
------------------------------------------------------------
Last week, on July 15, Supervisor Chyanne Chen introduced a resolution asking local law enforcement to come up with protocols for responding to ICE activity, pointing to the guidelines currently in place in Los Angeles as a template.

You may have seen our call script about it in our newsletter this morning. We got a couple things wrong, so we’re issuing a correction and an apology. We also have a happy update.

At the time of the resolution’s introduction, six supervisors supported it, as reported last week by Mission Local ([link removed]) and backed up by the original introduction packet ([link removed]) :

"Five additional supervisors signed on in support of the resolution, according to Chen’s office: Connie Chan, [Jackie] Fielder, Bilal Mahmood, Shamann Walton and Myrna Melgar."

Based on that reporting, we produced a call script urging the remaining supervisors to sign on.

In the background for that script, we incorrectly asserted that those six supervisors had voted for it, and the other five supervisors had voted against it. This was our misinterpretation of the above passage. In fact, the resolution wasn’t voted on in that meeting—it was simply introduced.

Moreover, in that meeting, Supervisors Sauter and Mandelman joined as cosponsors. So not only did they not vote against it, they also clearly registered themselves as supporters.

We apologize for these errors, and thank everyone who wrote in to correct the record.

The update is that yesterday, July 22, the Board passed the resolution unanimously. Mission Local reported that last night ([link removed]) —but we didn’t see it until this morning, after our newsletter had already gone out. We thank everyone who wrote in to tell us the good news.

And, we thank all eleven Supervisors for calling unanimously to ask SFPD to protect our communities from ICE.

We’ve updated our call script. Please call your Supervisor ([link removed]) and thank them for passing Supervisor Chen’s resolution.

Keep Fighting,
