Last week, Congress caved into Donald Trump’s demands and cut federal
funding for public media like PBS and NPR — both of which serve as a
critical resource for millions of Americans, especially those living in
rural areas.
PBS and NPR aren’t just news sources. They’re lifelines. They bring
fact-based reporting, in-depth storytelling, and educational programming
to millions — without corporate agendas or right-wing distortion.
We can't say we're surprised,
John. Republicans have been
talking about defunding public media for some time now, despite the fact
that nearly two-thirds of Americans support congressional funding for
public radio, including 58% of Republicans.
These local stations and outlets have been trusted by Americans across the
country and across the political spectrum for years. This is a calculated
move to minimize and silence the role independent journalism plays in our
democracy.
