For years, we’ve watched voting rights come under attack, with voter suppression laws spreading across the country.
Even though poll taxes and literacy tests are behind us, modern disenfranchisement is very real. Today, it looks like longer lines, fewer polling places, and more ballots being thrown out for minor technicalities.
These laws are designed to make it harder, not easier, for people — especially Black and brown Americans — to cast their ballots.
I believe the right to vote is sacred. And I believe it’s time to pass strong voting rights protections at the federal level.
