Team —
I got my first chance to serve the people of Massachusetts when I was elected to represent my neighbors in the Statehouse. But really, my first job where I served the people was when I was serving up frozen treats from my ice cream truck. (Yes, that’s really me.)
'Young Ed Markey and his ice cream truck.'
From the Statehouse I went on to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and finally to the U.S. Senate. And throughout my career, I’ve made it my mission to hold fast to my Malden values and deliver for the people I represent.
When those on both sides of the aisle denied the newfound evidence of climate change, I called for a clean, green revolution, and continued on to lead the introduction of the Green New Deal years later — parts of which became law under the Inflation Reduction Act.
When LGBTQ+ rights were still opposed by a majority, I voted against the homophobic Defense of Marriage Act and opposed ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ I was an original co-sponsor of the Equality Act, and last year I introduced the Transgender Bill of Rights in the Senate.
When Steward Health Care declared bankruptcy and closed hospitals in Massachusetts, I subpoenaed CEO Ralph de la Torre to testify in front of Congress and authored legislation to get greed out of our health care system.
And the thing is, through each of these big efforts and in challenging times, I have never been alone. I had the power of a movement for change on my side, pushing the cause of justice forward and making progress possible. Now, I’m calling on that movement to help me again today.
We rely on grassroots donors to push this campaign forward and help us raise the money we need to compete. With much work to do to fight back against the Trump administration’s far-right agenda, we need everyone pitching in what they can.
Help me continue to serve the people and fight for our progressive values in the Senate by making a contribution today. $5 or whatever you can afford would go a long way if everyone chips in. I can’t do this alone.

I’m proud of my track record, but there’s still work to be done. Let’s show that we’re ready to do so much more to deliver progressive change.
In solidarity,
Ed Markey
