Late last week, House Republicans once again bowed to the MAGA agenda and surrendered Congress’ Constitutional right of the power of the purse:
Over a billion dollars in already-approved spending for public broadcasting including PBS and NPR was unceremoniously cut.
This will disproportionately affect rural communities across Central and Southern Illinois. Local radio and TV stations will be on the chopping block – and thousands are in danger of losing access to news and other educational programming.
This is reckless and wrong. Even some Republicans stood against this decision that not only jeopardizes public broadcasting, but signals that Trump can override Congress whenever he feels like.
