Dear,
Despite increased scrutiny on the police's use of force, Los Angeles County deputies shot and killed two men within 48 hours of each other last week, and DA Jackie Lacey has done nothing.(1)
One of the murders was of an 18-year-old who was running away -- and the deputy who shot him wasn't wearing a body camera. The circumstances are so egregious that Attorney General Xavier Becerra is launching an independent investigation -- but Lacey isn't acting.(2)
Los Angeles' police are out of control, and Jackie Lacey needs to be held accountable. And this Sunday, the two million readers of the Los Angeles Times are going to know it.
Courage California is teaming up with Black Lives Matter Los Angeles to run the full-page ad shown here in the Times, calling out Lacey for allowing killer cops to run rampant and not providing justice for the community. Then we're kicking off a campaign to keep the pressure on until she is defeated in November.
Will you donate $5 to help fully fund our plan with Black Lives Matter to demand that DA Jackie Lacey be held accountable?
Andres Guardado, the teenager killed by the deputy last week, was working as a security guard at an auto repair shop when police approached him with guns drawn. Terrified, Andres ran, and seconds later, he was dead. But there is no body camera footage to show what happened.(3)
Jackie Lacey doesn't seem to care. She has already given killer cops a pass on other murders. Ryan Twyman. Anthony Weber. Kisha Michael. Grechario Mack. Albert Ramon Dorsey. More than 600 people have died at the hands of the police, many unarmed, and Lacey has failed to hold the department accountable.

Now the Los Angeles Police Department is one of the most violent police forces in the country.
During the Black Lives Matter protests over the last two weeks, L.A. police have beaten protesters, shot them with rubber bullets, driven their cars into groups of pedestrians, tear gassed and pepper sprayed crowds, and used excessive force on hundreds of people -- just more proof that the police have lost any accountability to the public.(4)
We're done waiting for Jackie Lacey to do her job and hold these killer cops to the standard the public deserves.
On Sunday, we're going let the two million readers of the Los Angeles Times know just how dangerous Lacey is to the Black community by running this full-page ad calling her out for allowing killer cops to walk the streets of Los Angeles. And we're going to run digital ads from now until Election Day to keep reminding Los Angeles that we need a new district attorney who actually serves the community, while we support Black Lives Matter Los Angeles' work.
It's an ambitious plan, and every dollar we raise will keep the ad running and take on the pro-police money. Will you donate to stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and stop Jackie Lacey from letting killer cops walk free?
Yes, I’ll donate to help demand justice for the people of Los Angeles and stop Jackie Lacey. Every dollar raised over ad cost will be split with Black Lives Matter Los Angeles.
Yours in the fight for our democracy,
Molly, along with Angela, Anne, Brian, Caitlin, Deepthi, Gabby, Irene, Jay, Lindsay, Raquel, and Scottie (the Courage team)
