John, it's Rep. Gil Cisneros, and I want to update you on what’s been happening here in Southern California.
FIRST: After days of coordinated ICE raids across the Los Angeles area, communities came together to protest these cruel and unjust actions. Despite public outcry, Trump deployed nearly 4,000 California National Guard troops to Los Angeles, ignoring the objections of Gov. Gavin Newsom and representatives like me.
THEN: Alongside Rep. Judy Chu and Rep. Derek Tran, I tried to visit an ICE facility near Victorville to check on the treatment and living conditions of those detained during the raids throughout L.A. County. However, we were turned away. The gates were padlocked, and federal officials refused us entry, blocking elected officials from doing our oversight duties.
NOW: After more than a month of sustained public pressure and legal challenges, U.S. Marines are finally being withdrawn from the Los Angeles area.
John, they should have never been there in the first place. Using our military to intimidate immigrant communities is wrong AND dangerous, and it puts so many in our communities at risk.
That's why I never stopped—and will never stop—fighting to defend our communities and push back against the kind of extremism that believes fear is a legitimate tool of government.
But John, I can’t do it alone. Will you chip in to help me stand strong against MAGA extremism and continue protecting our communities?
