I had to stop and sit in my air-conditioned car this morning just to cool
down. And it hit me—how are our neighbors on the street supposed to survive
this?
This latest heat wave is engulfing nearly a third of the U.S. [1] It's dire
for veterans, families and seniors with no place to cool down.
Our VOA responders are out, handing out cold water, checking on isolated
seniors and helping people get to shelter, but we need more friends for local

When the pavement hits 120 degrees, you feel it through your shoes.
That’s what this brutal summer has felt like for many of our
neighbors—veterans, families and seniors. Imagine being in this sweltering
heat with no roof. No shade. No relief.
**We’re out there right now, handing out cold water, checking on seniors who
live alone, helping people get into safe shelter.** But it’s more than just
emergency relief. We’re also helping people find longer-term housing,
addiction support and care that lasts beyond the crisis.
