Email from Enough Is Enough #ProtectKidsOnline APRIL - JUNE ROUNDUP See What We're Doing to Prevent Online Exploitation! Enough Is Enough (EIE) is maximizing its public education and advocacy efforts designed to protect children and families on the internet. Your support makes our work to protect children and families online possible. With your donation, we can continue our efforts to keep kids safe online. Every contribution makes a difference.... OUR VICTORY IS YOUR VICTORY! BIPARTISAN FEDERAL POLICY VICTORIES VICTORY! In a stunning late night 99–1 vote, the Senate rejected the AI moratorium amendment—an overwhelming rebuke of Big Tech lobbying. Had it passed, it would have imposed a 10-year ban on all state and local AI regulation that prevents states from protecting their citizens from emerging AI risks. This victory was only possible because our coalition of dedicated NGO's mobilized fast and pushed back hard in the weeks leading up to the vote! VICTORY! The Take It Down Act was signed into law, thanks to the collective advocacy of our many allies, bill sponsor Ted Cruz (R-TX) and First Lady Melania Trump. This landmark legislation is one of several aimed at making the internet safer for children, criminalizing the publication of non-consensual intimate imagery and deep fakes. Youth are suffering from this form of fraud, which is devastating their innocent lives. Donna was present at the Rose Garden signing by President Trump, celebrating this monumental victory, celebrating the efforts of all those who contributed to this crucial victory. VICTORY! The Supreme Court upheld a Texas age verification law (Free Speech Coalition V. Paxton) in a 6-3 vote requiring porn sites to verify users are at least 18 years old before granting access! Nineteen states have passed similar age verification laws as smartphones and other devices make it easier to access online pornography, including hardcore obscene material. The majority of obscene content depicts themes of incest, teen rape and violence--the worst of the worst. (See Donna's 6/30 Op-ed in the Washington Times on the SCOTUS decision). Enough Is Enough and countless allies have been tirelessly advocating for age verification since the advent of social media, and this decision marks a historic win for children and families as children's unfettered and easy access to obscene content -- known to cause tremendous harm--- has gone on far too long. ADVOCATING FOR STRONG PUBLIC POLICY Donna and Jack met with S.C. Rep. Ralph Norman (pictured on the right) to share EIE legislative priorities, as well as EIE's Children's Internet Safety Presidential Pledge and EIE's S.C. statewide initiative in partnership with the Department Of Justice. Meetings were also held with the office of Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), sponsor of the SCREEN Act (S. 737), which would mandate that all commercial pornographic websites implement robust age verification technology. This was followed by a meeting with staff from the office of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to discuss the Senator's proposed congressional initiative to Sunset Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act—effectively ending the broad legal immunity currently granted to online platforms for user-generated content unless Congress renews or replaces the law. Donna and Jack continued to advance the recommendations in The Children's Internet Safety Presidential Pledge with the above offices and also met with two senior officials of President Trump's Domestic Policy Council at the White House to discuss the Pledge, possible Executive Orders and other measures for consideration by the WH to prioritize child online safety.
