The first six months of President Trump’s return to office have marked the most extreme changes to the immigration system in modern U.S. history. These policy shifts likely feel too fast, too sweeping, or too complex to understand — as they frequently change day by day, hour by hour.  

That's why we've released a new special report, Mass Deportation: Analyzing the Trump Administration’s Attacks on Immigrants, Democracy, and America, as a framework to understand these changes.

Instead of listing everything the Trump administration has done, we identify the overarching themes that connect what has been done to noncitizens, the communities in which they live, and the impact to the entire U.S. immigration system in the last six months.

We explain how these attacks on immigrants, the immigration system, and the rule of law are part of a larger effort to undermine democratic systems, concentrate power, and suppress dissent. 

Who are we allowing into the United States, and who are we excluding? How are we treating the immigrants already here? Who are we forcing to leave, and how? 

Through topline analysis and on-the-ground stories of impacted individuals, we answer these critical questions and reveal how immigration is being used as a testing ground for authoritarian playbooks — and what we must do to push back.
