Email from Zionist Organization of America ZIONIST ORGANIZATION OF AMERICA NEWS RELEASE The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) Urges the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee to Quickly Give Antisemitism "Czar", Yehuda Kaploun, His Due Hearing Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) National President Morton A. Klein releases the following statement: The Zionist Organization of America and its president Morton A. Klein strongly urge the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to advance the nomination of Yehuda Kaploun to the full Senate so that Kaploun can be confirmed as America’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, and thus lead the vitally important work of trying to reduce the Jew-hatred and anti-Jewish activity that is sweeping through much of the world. That process begins with a hearing featuring Ambassador-designate Kaploun by the committee. “Senator Risch, please schedule a hearing for Ambassador-designate Kaploun as soon as possible,” said Zionist Organization of America National President Morton A. Klein. “Sen. Risch: You have been a great friend of the Jewish People and supporter of Israel throughout your career. The Jewish People need the Office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism to have its leader in place. Please end the delay. Mr. Kaploun and President Trump deserve this hearing,” Klein added. President Trump appointed the first so-called “Antisemitism Czar” in his first term. That appointment did not need to be confirmed by the Senate. President Biden enhanced the position by according the title of ambassador to the post, and all ambassadors must be confirmed by the Senate given the Constitution’s “advise and consent” clause. Once a nomination is made by the president, it is assigned to the appropriate Senate committee – in this case, Foreign Relations – and typically committee members meet with the nominee, a formal hearing is scheduled, and the committee then votes whether or not to send the nomination to the full Senate for confirmation. There could be several reasons for the delay – including if one senator exercises the privilege and puts a hold on the nomination. “Anti-Jewish activity including indoctrination to hate Jews, Zionism and Israel is at unprecedented levels in America, and it has swept through Europe at levels not seen since before the Holocaust,” Klein noted. “Fighting anti-Jewish activity has been a priority for President Trump and his administration – yet one of the leaders in that fight outside of America, the Special Envoy – has been unable to even begin this vitally important work because the confirmation of President Trump’s nominee has been held up in the United States Senate,” Klein said. “This is unfortunate and it is wrong. If a senator is trying to block Mr. Kaploun’s nomination, we call on that senator to release his or her hold and to let Mr. Kaploun have his fair hearing." ACTION ALERT The Zionist Organization of America urges all who want to fight Jew-hatred to contact Sen. Risch to ask him to schedule Ambassador-designate Kaploun’s hearing, and to contact the other members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to call for the hearing – and to vote for Mr. Kaploun and advance his nomination.
