We did it. Jamaal Bowman WON his primary and is on track to represent New York in Congress.

John,

Yesterday, we showed that a movement energized by support for the Green New Deal and the Movement for Black Lives can win.

A lot of people said we were naive to challenge Elliot Engel. He is a powerful committee chair, backed by the New York political machine. They said Jamaal Bowman couldn’t be the next AOC. NY-16 wasn’t as diverse and Engel had said enough of the right things to be considered a “progressive.”

But we knew the people wanted so much more, and Jamaal was the one willing to fight for them.

That faith and our hard work paid off. Jamaal Bowman WON his primary and is on track to represent New York in Congress.

Jamaal’s race was a clear test: a progressive grassroots fighter versus a 36-year incumbent backed by the establishment and corporate money from GOP donors.

Thousands of people in New York and around the country refused to back down. We made 846,655 phone calls for Jamaal, Sunrise hubs in New York led banner drops, and we canvassed hard in the final days. Together we helped put a public spotlight on Rep. Engel’s failure to serve his district and how he let down our generation.

And we did it all while supporting Charles Booker as he surged in popularity toward election day in Kentucky. His results aren’t in, but numbers are looking very good as we wait for every vote to be counted.

We can keep this momentum going in the coming weeks. Green New Deal champion Andrew Romanoff is in a close race in Colorado to become the Democratic nominee for Senate in six days. In July, we have more big primaries in New Jersey and Texas.

Can you chip in monthly to help us carry this momentum, elect more progressives, and transform our country in November?

Electing people like Jamaal Bowman to Congress means more than replacing one tired Democrat with a new face. It shows that we have power that grows from the streets and wins at the ballot box.

Today, the establishment received an unmistakable message: young people of the most diverse generation in history don’t want to play by the old rules any longer, and we will not be stopped.

P.S. If you’re unable to contribute this time but want to help keep this momentum going, sign up today to phonebank for Romanoff, who’s running against a pro-fracking Democrat for US Senate in Colorado. His election is Tuesday, and we’ve already proven that every voter we reach counts to reach victory.
