I'm reaching out today on behalf of my friend Jonathan Nez, the former president of the Navajo Nation. Today, he launched his historic campaign to become the first Native American to be elected to Congress in Arizona in AZ-2, one of the most important seats Democrats need to take back the House.
As you know, I know a little something about making history. My Ojibwe name translates to “speaks in a loud and clear voice woman.” I’m a member of the White Earth Nation, and my family is the Wolf Clan. The role of our clan is to ensure that we never leave anyone behind.
So, to speak loudly and clearly: there’s never been a Native American woman to serve in the United States Senate before, and there’s never been a Native American representative in Congress from Arizona.
