David Hogg here. I just got off the phone with one of my old teachers —
and I can’t stop thinking about our conversation.

Every month, I try to personally thank as many of our grassroots
supporters as I can. This time, one supporter stopped me in my tracks: my
middle school teacher.

She was one of those educators who have made a real impact. I would not be
where I am today without her. And all these years later, it felt surreal
to call and thank her for backing this movement.

She told me how upsetting it was to go through active-shooter drills with
her students — how helpless and heartbreaking it felt. And honestly, it’s
outrageous that teachers have to act as security guards, first responders,
and therapists because the system refuses to change.

It doesn't have to be this way,
John.

But the changes we need won’t come from the same broken system that got us
here. It starts with electing young, brave leaders who actually understand
what’s at stake — and have the courage to do something about it.
