A2 is proud to partner with ACORN on its “Beat the Heat” action on July 23rd. As temperatures rise, so must our demands. We are joining ACORN members across the world to demand that governments, landlords, and employers ensure safe, cool, and dignified conditions in our homes, our workplaces, and our daily lives amid rising extreme heat.
We are calling on A2 member groups to take action on July 23 by:
* Organizing a local event demanding protection from extreme heat. Invite your local media to amplify your message.
* Posting about the Beat the Heat campaign and your event on your social media pages, especially on July 23rd. These social media graphics [[link removed]] available from ACORN.
* Share this petition [[link removed]] with your community.
* Use this template [[link removed]] to send a letter to President Trump, demanding that he protect LIHEAP, FEMA, and enact other climate protections. Letters can be mailed to The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W., Washington, DC 20500
ACORN and other groups are demanding:
* Expand, don’t cut, the Low-Income Housing Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and FEMA.
* Stop all water shut-offs during heat periods—not just those labeled “extreme.”
* Lower water rates for households at 200% of the poverty rate or below.
* Special safety protocols for children, students, and athletes during outdoor activities.
* Provide direct human assistance for all heat-related services.
* Open public cooling spaces that include take-home cold packs.
* Provide solar generators for homes without reliable power.
Join your local campaign. Organize. Take Action. Demand Change.
To be counted among the hundreds of cities across the world that are taking action on July 23rd or for more help and support, contact ACORN at
