Action Alert! Tell the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency (OCIDA) that we won't sacrifice our air, water, or communities for Micron's profit.
Microchip manufacturing company, Micron, is planning to build a gigantic $100 billion chips manufacturing complex just north of Syracuse. At the end of June, the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency (OCIDA) and the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) on the project.
Community members and experts have developed a user-friendly Story Map of the many implications of this project and shortcomings of the DEIS. Highlights include the destruction of wetlands, potential for air quality degradation, lack of commitments to community benefits like affordable housing and accessible public transit, and no plans to mitigate potential socioeconomic harms to the community.
Check out the full breadth of impacts and shortcomings of Micron's report here.
So how can you make your voice heard? The public has until August 11th to weigh in on the many environmental and community implications of this massive project. Jobs to Move America and other CNY community groups have developed a handy comment tool that makes preparing a comment a breeze.
Next steps, share this comment tool with the people in your household and your networks! We deserve environmental protections that are as strong as our communities. Let's make sure OCIDA hears that loud and clear!
In solidarity,
