đź’¸ THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH đź’¸
|
In the wake of ICE raids making it unsafe for many of our neighbors to leave their homes to go to work, on top of decades of rent increases outpacing general inflation, rent burdens are becoming even more acute. Angelenos need stronger rent control to stay housed.
DSA-LA and Keep LA Housed are pushing city council closer to a vote on strengthening rent control. City Council members need to hear from renters like you saying current rent control is not enough. Tell City Council you support stronger rent control that caps annual rent increases at 60% of CPI with a ceiling of 3%.

|
In light of the ICE raids, this meeting has been changed to be fully online until ICE leaves LA. Please RSVP below for the Zoom link.
This working group will be focused on organizing actions, educational events, phonebanks, and more in solidarity with the struggle for Palestinian liberation.

Please also see our community agreements below!
We often, and enthusiastically, organize and discuss topics in large groups of people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. Learning to do this without reproducing the oppressive ideologies we’ve inherited from a dysfunctional society can be daunting and uncomfortable, but it is essential. If we are going to build a society that prefers equality to oppression, we must build it first in the spaces we organize. The following are not only useful guidelines for respectful discussion, they are also fundamental building blocks for creating a social movement capable of broad and meaningful solidarity:

This is a funraiser for national convention. We need your solidarity to cover critical travel, lodging, and organizing costs for every LA delegate. Let’s send our team to Chicago fully funded and fully fired up!
Join us at Bruddah’s Hawaiian in Gardena for a night of solidarity, strategy, and seriously good times:

Canvass for Stronger Rent Control in Los Angeles – CD10
|
Saturday, July 26 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
|
Do you think the rent’s too high? Let’s do something about it by talking with our neighbors about the need for stronger rent control and showing Heather Hutt that Angelenos support capping rent increases at 60% of CPI, and never more than 3%.
Â
We’ll have snacks, and we’ll start with a training before pairing up newer canvassers with more experienced canvassers.
|
Are you new or newly returning to DSA? To Los Angeles? To the Left? Then join us for DSA 101!
At this orientation, we’ll talk about what capitalism is, how it functions, and why socialism is ideologically opposed to it. Participants will also learn about the history of our organization and our chapter in particular, the current projects we’re working on, and how you can get involved. This is not a lecture, but a meeting for new and veteran organizers to ground ourselves in socialist theory and discuss together how we can put it into action. We’re excited to chat with you!
Don’t forget to bring your lunch/snacks and a blanket/chairs to picnic with us!
|
Help keep us Reds in the black! Want to support our chapter in direct actions, door knocking, political education, and more as we fight fascism with socialism in 2025? Chip in some socialist cash to take out the capitalist trash!
