John, we're challenging state rules that jeopardize the Boundary Waters

Today, Save the Boundary Waters filed a new lawsuit challenging state rules that leave the Boundary Waters vulnerable to damage from toxic sulfide-ore copper mining. We are once again taking the lead and working at every level of government to stop the Twin Metals mine in its tracks.

Despite the Boundary Waters having the highest level of federal protection as wilderness, current Minnesota state rules - which implement state laws - do not prohibit risky sulfide-ore copper mining on lands near the Wilderness and adjacent to rivers and lakes that flow directly into the Boundary Waters.

In fact, current pollution standards in Minnesota rules would allow significant damage to the clean water and forests in and around the Boundary Waters.
