John,
Congress hasn’t delivered for election officials yet again.
Late last night, a House subcommittee proposed allocating just $15 million in federal funding for our nation’s elections this coming year. [1]
This proposal comes after you sent letters to your members of Congress and after nearly 20 bipartisan election officials, including members of Issue One’s Faces of Democracy campaign, called on Congress to support the dedicated public servants administering our elections by providing at least $400 million to bolster election infrastructure. [2]
The amount the subcommittee proposed falls profoundly short of what is needed to meet rising costs, ongoing threats, and new mandates that election officials are expected to implement.
Elections are the bedrock of our democracy, and it’s time that Congress acted accordingly to provide election officials with the resources they need to serve voters and uphold the integrity of our democratic process.
This isn’t the end of the road — we need your help to make even more noise on this issue to ensure election officials get adequate funding in the final bill. Tell your representative to step up and invest in our nation’s election infrastructure!
The federal government has both a constitutional role and a responsibility to ensure the security of federal elections — which includes sharing the load with states and localities when it comes to funding elections.
Congress needs to meet the moment and provide officials with the resources they need to do their jobs. Elections are the backbone of our democracy, and safeguarding them is a shared responsibility.
Write to your representative and urge them to provide consistent, reliable funding to support state election administration!
