I had to pinch myself.
On Saturday, my colleague Jeremy
Gruber was interviewed for 15 minutes on
CNN about an emerging legal
challenge to closed primaries in Pennsylvania. He crushed it. And his
appearance was just weeks after The NY Times, Washington Post and NBC produced in-depth pieces about the rise of independent voters
and the controversy surrounding open primaries. The Daily News. The Hill. The Baltimore Sun. The Philadelphia Inquirer. The Oklahoman. AP. Fox News. U.S. News & World Report. Reno-Gazette. Orlando Sentinel. Where do I stop?
I had to pinch myself because over
the last couple months this has become normal! There is a national
conversation taking place about our work to let All Voters
Vote.
That doesn’t mean we are in
control. Far from it. As I point out in an op ed today for the Daily
News, the proponents of
status quo politics (NYC progressives and Texas conservatives - what a
dream team!!!) still run the show.
But we are no longer being ignored.
It’s a breakthrough. And any good military historian will tell you,
when you make a breakthrough…you push harder.
So we push harder.
But not before we pause and thank
you for all you’ve done to generate this conversation. From Reno to
Rochester YOU have forced this issue into the mainstream.
Brilliant.
Most sincerely,
John Opdycke
