John,
It’s been exactly six months of Trump’s presidency, and in that time he has engaged in *unprecedented* corruption.
It’s pretty common to use the term “unprecedented” when it comes to Donald Trump—but we have the numbers to back it up in our new report.
Just like we did during his first term, CREW’s continuing to track Trump’s growing conflicts of interests—which include more golf trips, more foreign visits and more profits—and we’re fighting to hold him accountable. This is work that only CREW does, and we know our work is getting under Trump’s skin.
We’ll give you the stats on Trump's truly unprecedented conflicts below, but if you want to take a stand against his corruption, now is the perfect time to do so. This month, a generous donor is matching all gifts, so your donation today will have DOUBLE the impact →
During Trump’s first term, he racked up more than 3,700 conflicts of interest due to his failure to divest from his real estate empire. And his second term is the same—but worse.
Trump has continued to defy presidential norms by spending a significant amount of time at properties he owns and profits from. In the last six months, he made 91 visits to his properties—a 20% increase from last term.
That means Trump has visited his properties more than half of the days he’s been president.
By frequently visiting properties that he still owns and profits from, Trump is signaling to those looking to gain access to him that they should follow suit—and they are doing exactly that.
In the last six months, foreign government officials from ten countries have made 19 visits to Trump properties, including the presidents of four different countries. Members of Trump’s administration have also traveled to his properties and brought business and attention with them. And members of Congress have flocked to Trump properties, with House Republicans hosting a retreat at Trump’s Doral resort days after his inauguration.
And this isn’t the only way Trump has profited from retaining interest in his hospitality empire.
Over the last six months, special interest groups, political committees and foreign governments have hosted or sponsored events at Trump properties—allowing Trump to profit from those looking to curry favor with him.
For example, the Seasonal Employment Alliance PAC, which hires seasonal foreign workers, held a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago after the Trump administration delayed release of limited foreign visas. Less than two weeks after this event, the administration released new visa spots.
Political committees have hosted 21 events in the last six months at Trump properties. And according to a CREW analysis, political groups have already spent more than $675,000 at Trump properties.
Aside from using the presidency to profit from visits and events to his properties, Trump has also used it to advertise his businesses and grow his fortune.
In the last six months, he’s promoted his properties by mentioning them 54 times, and he’s taken to Truth Social to advertise products like his book, television shows and cryptocurrencies.
Trump’s also embraced crypto while his administration has loosened restrictions on the industry. In May, he hosted a dinner for the top holders of his $TRUMP memecoin—which brought in $148 million from those looking to buy access to the president.
The Trump Organization is also rapidly expanding around the world. There are currently 20 Trump properties under development in nine countries, giving foreign leaders the opportunity to provide special treatment to Trump through these developments.
Six months into Trump’s second term, and we’ve seen Trump commit greater abuses of his office and profit in more corrupt ways than he did during his first term. We could not have imagined that he could lower the ethical bar even further, but he has.
CREW is more committed than ever to combat this corruption. We will hold Trump accountable every chance we get. We’ll continue to track his conflicts of interest and continue our fight to uncover corruption, lawlessness and ethics violations.
