Senator Bernie Sanders recently warned that America is quickly becoming an authoritarian state. We thought we'd take a closer look.

1. Concentration of Power
Donald Trump has elected three Supreme Court Justices who swayed our highest court way towards the right. Since then, they have granted him near-full immunity to rule however he pleases without legal consequences. Thus, he has full control over each branch of government and cannot be held accountable for his crimes. He has embraced "strongman" tactics that allow him to pass laws without Congressional approval.

2. Suppression of Dissent
Donald Trump has called in the military to violently crack down on peaceful protests against him, deported those who disagree with him, threatened to lock up his political rivals, and most recently claimed he could revoke the citizenship of any American he chooses. He has purged public offices of leaders who stand in his way.

3. Disregard for Democratic Norms
When Donald Trump lost the 2020 Presidential Election, he claimed it was stolen from him and led a deadly insurrection at the Capitol to stop the verification of the elections' results. Since then, he has attacked the free press, supported voter suppression legislation, and politicized independent agencies that normally stay out of politics.

4. Spread of Disinformation
Donald Trump rose to power by spreading lies about then-President Barack Obama. Now, he continues promoting conspiracies about the 2020 Presidential Election, Jeffrey Epstein, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, crime statistics, racist anti-immigrant propaganda, NATO, and more. His entire administration peddles in disinformation on a daily basis.
