| Wednesday, June 24 Round Up: SB 899 included in Senate Housing Package, CHPC "Housing Needs" Dashboard unveiled, upcoming trainings, & more. | | | Legislative Updates & NPH Policy Priorities | | | | | NPH is excited to announce that SB 899 has passed out of committee and now heads to the Senate Floor. This bill continues to pick up support and steam, including recently being adopted by Senate Leadership into the Senate Housing Package. This is a critical step for SB 899, an NPH co-sponsored bill that would allow faith-based organizations and nonprofit colleges to build affordable housing through streamlined zoning. This bill is designed to directly address housing segregation throughout our state by opening up exclusive communities of opportunity to affordable housing development. The bill could go to the Senate floor for a vote as early as today and we need your help. Tell your Senator that SB 899 is a priority for you. Let's protect our state's future, and help the Bay Area create more inclusive communities. | | | The State Budget was approved by the Legislature on June 15. At a time when many other programs have suffered steep cuts, NPH is grateful for the inclusion of a $500 million investment in the State Low-Income Housing Tax Credits. In addition, the Legislature exempted the Low-Income Housing Tax Credits from a cap on the use of the business incentive tax credits which limits how many credits investors can take. By making this exemption, the Legislature maintained the integrity and preserved the value of the existing tax credit system. The State Legislature will pause for Summer Recess on July 2nd, returning on July 13th. Due to this recess, the Legislative Issues Working Group meeting for July has been cancelled. We will reconvene on Thursday, August 6. | | | | | |
| Regional Solutions for our Region's Housing | | | | |
The Metropolitan Transportation Committee and Association of Bay Area Governments will vote on the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) at today's MTC/ABAG meeting Wednesday, June 24. BAHFA was created in 2019 by AB 1487 (Chiu), an NPH sponsored bill, to provide the 9-county Bay Area with the robust regional housing infrastructure and capacity needed to advance the “3 Ps” of production, protection, and preservation. BAHFA presents opportunities to address the region’s housing crisis through its existing capacity and with potential state, federal, corporate, and philanthropic resources and support. | | | | |
