Today is Congressman Jim Clyburn’s birthday. I can’t tell you a voice that has had more impact or driven more change for our country than Jim Clyburn. I spoke at his world-famous fish fry in South Carolina just a few months ago, and I’m lucky to consider him more than my guy, but also a friend.
I know there’s one gift in particular Congressman Clyburn would appreciate today:
As Democrats, we work tirelessly to ensure every voice is heard at the decision-making table. I can’t think of many people who have done more to further those values than Congressman Clyburn.
Jim often says that we need to make America’s greatness accessible and affordable to all, and he has dedicated much of his life to doing just that. As a leading figure in our country’s Civil Rights Movement, Jim blazed a path for justice and equality for all.
As former House Majority Whip and Assistant Democratic Leader, Jim has been an indispensable advocate for voting rights, affordable health care, broadband expansion, and gun safety, and a valuable partner for Maryland’s priorities on Capitol Hill.
He’s continuing that work today -- fighting to protect our communities from the daily assaults from the Trump administration, offering ways we can all push back against the GOP’s reckless actions, and traveling around the country to elect Democrats nationwide.
