2019 CARES by the Numbers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every child care provider that shows up for work each day to support children's
health, safety, and development should be celebrated. Whether you participated
in CARES or not, your contribution to our community is important.
In 2019, 358 child care providers applied to the CARES program because they were
participating in a degree program or pursuing training in child development topics.
198 providers completed all of their CARES requirements and were eligible to receive
an award.
Awardees from 2019 completed a combined total of 1,687 college units and 4,270 hours
of professional growth.
CARES awardees worked in classrooms and programs that provide care for over 5,300
children aged 0-12.

After 19 years, the current AB212 CARES program has come to an end. The Local Planning
Council and Child Action, Inc. would like to thank the CARES participants for your
dedication to the Early Care field and your participation over the years.
The CDE has transitioned what was AB212 funding into the new Quality Counts California
Workforce Pathways Grant. A consortia of Sacramento County stakeholders are currently
planning for the new grant which has opportunities for professional development
supports for providers at every level of the mixed-delivery child care system.
Please stay connected to learn more as the consortia and Raising Quality Together,
Sacramento's local QCC, plan for future supports for the early learning and care
profession.
