John,
Since Donald Trump came back into the White House, there have been
multiple reports of ICE detaining and even deporting US citizens. It’s
racism, xenophobia, and cruelty at work.
That’s why I just introduced the Stop ICE from Kidnapping US Citizens Act
in Congress. This legislation prohibits ICE from detaining or deporting US
citizens, and creates real accountability when they do.
From a 19-year-old citizen who suffered a seizure and was taken to the
hospital without his ID, to a 25-year-old disabled veteran who is a
citizen and was held for three days without any access to legal
representation or any charges against him, to two US citizen children who
were deported to Honduras along with their non-citizen mother, these
incidents are going to keep happening until we do something to stop them.
But I can’t do this alone. Congress needs to hear loud and clear that the
American people won’t put up with this.
