President Trump and Congressional Republicans have slashed a billion dollars in federal funding from public radio and TV. Most affected will be rural communities who rely on public broadcasting not just for news, but for natural disaster warnings. But whether you listen to NPR every morning or not, every single one of us should be concerned about this.
Cutting funding for journalism is going to make it even harder for people to get answers about their local governments—bodies that are making important decisions about housing, education, and more.
Journalism bridges the gap between elected officials and the people they’re supposed to represent. This is something every single American should support, regardless of political party.
