QUALIFICATION: Qualifications for executive board members: must be a member in good standing; be a member of an AFGE local or council; not be a member in any labor organization not affiliated with the AFL-CIO. Candidates shall not run for more than one (1) executive board position in the same constituency group election meeting. The term of office is two (2) years, ending with the installation of executive board members following the regularly scheduled elections in August 2027.
NOMINATION: A candidate must accept or decline nomination during the virtual nomination meeting. Any nominee that is not present and on camera during the virtual nomination meeting will be considered as a declined nomination. Eligible members making the nomination have the responsibility of informing the nominees of their nomination.
ELECTION: The election will follow as soon as possible at the same meeting. The installation of the HISCO Executive Board members will be held after the election results, unless there is an election runoff. A runoff election will take place when candidates for the same position receive the same number of votes.
A runoff election will be held immediately following the counting of the raise hand election vote on the same virtual Zoom platform on August 21, 2025. Each candidate may have one (1) observer, who is a member, present throughout the nomination and election process. The Women and Fair Practices Department provides an avenue for any member to challenge the HISCO Executive Board Election by filing a protest in writing to the National Vice President for the Women and Fair Practices Department prior to, during, or within 10 days after the election results are announced during the HISCO Election Meeting. A candidate can email a protest directly to [email protected].
