John,
The Trump administration just terminated the specialized LGBTQ+ youth support line through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Previously, LGBTQ+ youth calling the suicide and crisis lifeline would talk to specialized counselors trained on respond to LGBTQ+ youth in crisis.
This is a devastating attack on LGBTQ+ youth. The Trump administration doesn’t believe LGBTQ+ youth are worth saving, these attacks on life-saving care proves it.
Over 1.3 million young people have reached out to this crisis hotline since 2022, many of whom had nowhere else to turn in their darkest moments. Now, they're being pushed into general crisis lines that lack specialized care for their unique needs.
Firearm suicide is already the leading method of suicide among youth, accounting for nearly half of all youth suicides. For LGBTQ+ young people, who experience higher rates of mental health struggles, isolation, and rejection, the consequences of removing targeted crisis support are deadly.
At March For Our Lives, we refuse to stand by as lifesaving resources are ripped away from those who need them most. We’re fighting for a world where young people — especially LGBTQ+ youth — are given the support they deserve, not abandoned in crisis.
Every young person deserves support, compassion, and safety. We’re not free from gun violence until we’re ALL free from gun violence.
With urgency,
March For Our Lives
