Let’s celebrate.

We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. If you are experiencing symptoms or are looking for more information, you can visit the website of the CDC or the Illinois Department of Health. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.

John,

Today Chicago celebrates our 51st Pride! Pride is a celebration of the LGBTQ community and how far this country has come since the police raids on the Stonewall Inn in 1969. Founded in 1972, Chicago Pride has grown to be one of the largest and most celebrated Pride events in the world.

Pride is an important time to celebrate the progress we’ve made since Stonewall, from the legalization of gay marriage to last week’s Supreme Court ruling preventing workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Pride also serves as an important reminder that there is still so much more to do to ensure that all members of the LGBTQ community are treated as equal members of society.

2020 marks the first census that will give same-sex couples the option to self-identify as same-sex partners or spouses. These numbers are vital to determining how federal money is distributed and how much representation each state receives at the federal level.

However, the LGBTQ community still does not have all the representation they need. There is still no place for nonbinary people to correctly self-identify on the census. Without the proper data, communities are unable to organize and demand the services they need.

And to make matters worse, Trump continues to relentlessly attack LGBTQ people. He banned transgender service members from the military, supported workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation, advocated for healthcare professionals to refuse care based on sexual orientation, just to name a few.

Chuy is a proud advocate of LGBTQ rights. Sign up to volunteer with our Protests to Power Initiative, let’s continue to organize and stand up against Trump’s dangerous agenda.

¡Sí Se Puede!
