Friend,
On July 4, President Trump signed the “Big Beautiful Bill” into law, a disastrous piece of legislation that is a full-scale attack on addiction treatment and harm reduction services.
Just as we’ve started to see overdose deaths decline, this law threatens to send us backward. The bill guts Medicaid — the single largest payer of addiction treatment in the country. This means more of our loved ones will be lost to overdose. Meanwhile, the bill includes astounding budget increases for multiple law enforcement agencies.
Our work is cut out for us, Friend. Our whole movement, from your community to the capital, needs to hold together and fight back against these cuts while doing whatever we can to limit the damage. When we come together, with your support, we have the power to change course.
We’re asking 100 Drug Policy Alliance members to make an urgent gift by July 31 — will you be the first? We’re counting on your support to drive our response to this urgent situation.

Overdose deaths have started coming down, but these cuts are likely to reverse that much-needed progress. Access to treatment, naloxone, and other health services keep people alive and on a path towards recovery.
And now those lifesaving solutions are being taken away.
You and I both know how wrong this is. These cuts will cost lives, and we will not let our leaders forget it.
Friend, it's time for us to keep holding accountable every congressperson who voted for this bill. It’s time to ramp up our organizing at the state and local levels to help fill the gap. We cannot just trade in treatment and support for arrest and incarceration.
It’s time to use every tool at our disposal to make sure that people have access to the health and addiction services they need and deserve.
We need you in this fight, Friend. Give before July 31 and count yourself among the 100 DPA members who will power this work.
