July is a busy month for SV DSA! Not only are we holding our final Brew and Chew event, the Political Education working group is putting on an event on the anti-ICE protests, the International Solidarity working group has partnered with PACT to support families threatened by ICE, and the Mutual Aid working group has expanded their support for unhoused people.
This Saturday, July 26, from 1-3 PM, we will have our July Chapter Meeting, both in person at the SEIU 521 Union Hall and virtually on Zoom. This meeting's agenda will feature a lively discussion on resolutions our delegates will consider at the National Convention in August; this will determine DSA's national direction for the next 2 years. These include resolutions on DSA's national platform, censuring DSA-affiliated politicians, and more. |

Join SVDSA, Better Elections Santa Clara County, and the California Ranked Choice Voting Coalition for a fun night at Strike Brewing in San Jose. We will demonstrate the benefits of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) through a mock election ranking beers and cookies!

Spontaneity, Organization and the Anti ICE Protests |

Every fourth Wednesday, the Political Education Working Group hosts its monthly teach-in. Join us in person or on Zoom on July 23 from 7-8:30 PM to discuss "Spontaneity, Organization, and anti-ICE Protests." We'll cover how to harness the spontaneity of mass uprisings, like the anti-ICE protests. Preview the material in the PolEd Slack channel. |

Alongside People Acting in Community Together (PACT), Silicon Valley DSA is offering families help with preparing plans in case a loved one is detained by ICE. Join us every Thursday evening, starting July 24, from 5-7 PM at the San Jose Peace and Justice Center. |

Mutual Aid Working Group Update |

|
🍅Our weekly Garden Days at the San Jose Peace and Justice Center continue every Saturday. We've finished harvesting lettuce, which was used to package salads for San Jose Food Not Bombs, and we are now in the midst of squash and pepper season. We distribute produce to the community through the Free Pantry. Want to help? Join us on Saturdays!
👚On July 19, we hosted our monthly Free Store, sharing clothes and essential supplies with our community. It's held every third Saturday at the San Jose Peace and Justice Center.
📌We've taken on a new project: stopping the sweep at Columbus Park and supporting unhoused residents, including Guadalupe Residents Advocating for Community Empowerment (GRACE). A resident, Susie, lost her life after being displaced. We've joined a coalition of mutual aid and activist groups to oppose the sweep and organized weekly aid runs with San Jose Food Not Bombs.
