Hey --
When Kentucky voters went to vote in their primary election yesterday, they had only 170 polling places up and running -- an unimaginable downsizing from the usual 3,700 polling locations the state typically needs.
And in Jefferson County, which happens to be home to the largest Black community in the entire state, there was only ONE polling place. Let's not forget: Mitch McConnell knows that his own seat is at risk in this election.
Look, if it isn't clear yet, the reduction of polling places in Kentucky yesterday is a textbook example of racially-motivated voter suppression. It may not be a poll tax, literacy test, or billy club -- but inaccessible polling places and hours-long wait times have the same silencing effect on Black voices across the country.
We need to speak out against this injustice, and the blatantly partisan attacks that unconstitutionally threaten our right to vote. Add your name today to join Donald in the fight to expand ballot access and end racially-motivated voter suppression efforts:
Republicans have always found new, inventive ways to make it harder for Black people to vote. Not only do these policies contribute to our country's widespread systemic racism, but they also undermine our elections and hard-won democracy.
Entirely too many soldiers and activists have died to protect and liberate our country to tolerate any amount of voter suppression. Infringements on our voting rights during a primary -- if left unchecked -- will only lead to even more egregious voter suppression efforts this fall.
The November 2020 election will be one of the most important, transformative elections of our lifetimes. That's why we need to take a stand today against voter suppression and ensure that every eligible Black voter in the U.S. is able to make their voice heard this year.
