That’s why we work to protect and honor the sacred landscapes and historic landmarks that shaped our history, culture, and communities, such as Stonewall National Monument; Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park; and Bears Ears National Monument.
But now, that progress is under threat. We’re seeing a concerted effort to erase important stories from our parks, public lands, and historic sites.
Under a new federal order, signs and QR codes are being placed in national parks, monuments, and historic sites across the country, encouraging visitors to report “negative” historical content about past or living Americans.
We know that acknowledging complex chapters in our history—including slavery, Indigenous sovereignty, and civil and immigrant rights—is how we continue the march toward a more perfect union.
