Lets Keep Nottingham Moving Safely

*"A Message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:"*

Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council

As the lockdown restrictions are eased, many of us will need to be able to get around the city more. Its great to see lots of people walking and using their bikes, which not only helps reduce the pressure on our road networks, but is great for the environment and our health and wellbeing too. Nottingham has one of the best public transport systems in the country and as more people return to work, our transport partners are working hard to keep you safe, should you need to travel. If you do need to use public transport please

* Avoid peak travel times if you can
* Plan ahead, check journey times
* Avoid touching hard surfaces
* Wear a face covering
* Keep your distance from other passengers
* Continue with regular handwashing

Be Active Nottingham Live streamed fitness classes in your home

Active Nottingham Live logo

Active Nottingham has launched free taster sessions for online gym classes such as circuit training, yoga, chair-based exercise and HIIT (high-intensity interval training). While we wait for Government guidance on when leisure centres can reopen, Active Nottingham has been revamping its online offer to help inspire Nottingham to keep fit at home. This week and next week several classes every day will be live-streamed over Zoom. The classes will be led by our own instructors, so Nottingham Active regulars will see some familiar faces! This is a great opportunity for members to get back into training again and for non-members to try something new. For more information visit Active Nottingham [ [link removed] ]

*Additional Government funding for rough sleepers announced*

Nottingham Skyline

The council, along with partners and voluntary organisations, responded swiftly and effectively to the Governments directive to bring rough sleepers in off the streets to safely isolate from Covid-19, with the promise that it would fund those efforts. So far we have invested nearly 800,000 in bringing rough sleepers off the streets and linking them with support services. Weve received just 22,500 back from Government. We welcome todays announcement of additional funding but we need urgent clarity and detail on how much Nottingham can expect and how we are permitted to spend. It is still not clear whether we will be fully recompensed despite the Governments promise to stand shoulder to shoulder with local authorities.
