Seeking a new, easy-to-learn prepper skill? I've got you covered.
Of all the strange and vaguely criminal skills I've learned over my years as a prepper, my ability to pick a lock is the one that has come in handy in a surprising number of day-to-day situations.
I used it at an Airbnb in Croatia once, when I became convinced there was a recording device in a closet with a peephole. (There was. I left and reported it to Airbnb.) I used it to open a filing cabinet with a long-lost key. I used it at my daughter's place, where the breaker box was in a locked basement, when the fuses blew regularly. I used it in Greece to access a rooftop patio that I was allowed to visit when the host forgot to leave the key.
It's pretty underrated, as far as skills go. It has a very low initial investment and it's something you can practice while sitting on your comfy couch in your living room.
Here's how to get started on your own lockpicking journey. (And how to stay on the right side of the law while doing it.)

I picked up this skill years ago and have used it on a variety of occasions since. I love that it's a skill I can use despite my current level of disability, as I strive to find more ways to be useful in a crisis.
Do you know how to pick a lock? Have you ever attended a locksport event? Do you have a lockpick set? Is it something you'd enjoy learning?
Let's talk about it in the comments section.
Stay safe.
Be happy.
Love,
Daisy
