Standing with My Law Enforcement Brothers and Sisters Dear John, As a 23-year law enforcement officer, I am pleased to be helping lead the way in Washington for criminal justice reform that ensures more accountability within police departments and, just as importantly, provides them with the resources they need to keep our communities safe. I have always maintained you don't police your community, you police with your community. It’s a partnership that only succeeds if you have mutual trust, understanding, and shared objectives.
The killing of George Floyd was tragic and unjust. It is also disappointing to see peaceful protests getting hijacked into violent looting and rioting. I continue to stand with my brothers and sisters in uniform and maintain that being a police officer in America is still a noble and honorable profession. We have to make sure we recruit the best and the brightest to keep our communities safe!
Honored to Be Endorsed by the Carpenters Fighting for our way of life means fighting for, and standing with, the working families in northern Minnesota. On Monday, I was honored to be endorsed by the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters. At 27,000 union members strong, Minnesotas carpenters will play a leading role in helping our state rebuild and recover from the economic setback caused by the global pandemic and Minnesotans appreciate the significant role they play in unleashing our economic engine. I look forward to fighting for them and all Minnesota workers and I am continually humbled by the support I’m receiving from the NCSRCC, the Teamsters Joint Council 32, and the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 49. Class of 2020 Gives Us Optimism for Our Future As you know, I have launched a podcast channel on my website where I periodically interview folks from our part of Minnesota who are doing great things and contributing to our way of life. Recently, I recorded Episode 3 with Chisago Lakes High School honors graduate Kaitlynn Pombo, a member of the Class of 2020 who – due to COVID-19 – was unable to finish her senior year in school. Kaitlynn started training with the Minnesota National Guard last weekend and, this fall, she will be attending Minnesota State University - Mankato, where she will pursue a nursing degree. Kaitlynn and so many graduates like her give us good reason to be optimistic about our future! Check out my latest podcast here!
Senate Confirms Trump’s 199th Judicial Nomination While it didn’t garner endless headlines or dominate the 24/7 cable TV news networks, I want to highlight an important milestone: Last week, the U.S. Senate confirmed President Trump’s nomination of Justin Walker to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He became the 199th judicial nomination by President Trump's administration. The President’s 200th nominee is expected to be confirmed as soon as this week! Read more about the President’s latest judicial nominees here. Have a great week!
